The Bachelor mansion: Real estate expert reveals price of TV homes

Carrie Bradshaw’s terrace, Kath and Kim’s humble home and the Bachelor mansion. We reveal the price tags of TVs most iconic houses.

The Bachelor 2019 Episode 11 Recap: Bachelors Club

We’ve sat through the rose ceremonies and the latest banking executive declaring his love for Carrie Bradshaw on the steps of her apartment building.

And as Australians inherently obsessed with property prices, who among us hasn’t sat back and debated how much television’s iconic houses are really worth?

Upside Realty chief executive and founder Adam Rigby has broken it down for us.

THE BACHELOR MANSION

So many kisses, so many roses.
So many kisses, so many roses.

Let’s start at the biggest house with the tackiest storylines.

Matt Agnew is romantically whittling down the group of eligible young ladies to his one true love at The Hamptons-inspired estate on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, known as Nelly’s Farm.

The mansion was bought in 2010 for $2.3 million, but Mr Rigby estimates it is now worth closer to $5 million.

Hopefully the bathrooms aren’t stained with fake tan and make-up.

28 RAMSAY STREET, NEIGHBOURS

It’s been the scene of many fake street cricket matches and who can forget Dr Karl Kennedy’s affair being exposed. Awful stuff! Poor Susan …

The actual house is located in a Vermont South cul-de-sac in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, where all the house owners allow television crews to film outdoor scenes.

It's the most famous house from the iconic television show. But how much is it worth?

“The property that lends its exterior to the show was bought by its owners in 1978 for $62,000,” Mr Rigby said.

“A few neighbouring houses also used in the show sold recently for closer to $870,000, which is consistent with median values in the area.”

Dr Karl’s home is estimated to be worth about $900,000.

SEX AND THE CITY

The terrace has become a tourist attraction in New York.
The terrace has become a tourist attraction in New York.

It’s the age-old question — how does a columnist who writes one piece a week afford the one-bedroom apartment in Greenwich Village.

Trick question! Carrie Bradshaw’s dwelling is actually a grand brownstone facade used for exterior shots that actually houses a five-bedroom mansion. The inside shots of the controversial columnist’s apartment are from a studio set.

“When the brownstone building was last listed for sale in 2012, selling agent Sotheby’s Realty revealed the home had only been inhabited by two families since it was constructed,” Mr Rigby said.

“It was designed by architect Robert Mook, who also planned most of the other Italianate style townhouses on the block.”

Estimated value: $AU13 million

KATH AND KIM

Unlike the lies of Carrie’s terrace, this humble home is worth more than many fans of the comedy Kath and Kim may realise.

“It may not shout ‘look at moi’ on first impressions, but you might be surprised at the real-world value of Kath Day Knight’s modest Fountain Lakes home,” Mr Rigby said.

“Located in a canal estate in Melbourne’s southeast, the property has direct water access and a jetty, adding a premium to the price, as well as four bedrooms, two living areas and a formal dining room.”

Estimated value: $1.3 million
