Sydney’s Northern Beaches is known for its stunning scenery and affluent lifestyle.

However, a recent post in the Northern Beaches Community Facebook group has sparked a debate about the state of sports facilities available for kids in the area.

The post, shared by a concerned dad, highlighted how frequent rain impacts the enjoyment of outdoor sports for many families.

Dad raises concern over waterlogged facilities

His post included a photo of a rainy day at a local sports field, with kids in gumboots and parents braving the elements under umbrellas.

The area around the field is visibly waterlogged, with puddles scattered across the ground and mud trodden across the undercover area around the clubhouse.

"What do you think about sports facilities on the beaches?" the dad asked.

"Move on champion"

The post quickly racked up over 170 comments from other community members, with some agreeing that the area needs an upgrade and others telling him that ‘a bit of rain’ isn’t a big deal.

"We have it pretty good in Australia," one person wrote, sharing a picture of kids playing soccer on a dry, sunny day.

"We should all be grateful we live in a beautiful part of the world and have plenty of sporting facilities... It's a bit of rain, get over it!" a second person chimed in.

And another comment echoed: "We've just had nearly a year's worth of rainfall in the last month, mate, and today's downpour certainly didn't do any favours. Sporting facilities are fine, we can't control the weather."

"What you take for granted, other people are praying for. Be thankful," someone else pointed out. "Everything on the Northern Beaches is better than life in some parts of the world right now, in my honest opinion!"

"At least the field is open," one person noted.

Then this user made the point, "This generation has sporting fields equal to or better than any before it and we all thrived on them back in the day. Move on, champion."

"A disgrace"

However, another group member claimed there was a desperate need for facility upgrades: "Curl Curl's field definitely needs a renewal.”

Someone else claimed that"drainage needs addressing for sure, but that does NOT mean artificial grass garbage needs to be put down."

Then, one commenter went so far as to call the facilities "a disgrace relative to sporting grounds and facilities in Sydney's Western Suburbs and regional facilities."

"We can't even get the ovals mowed properly for cricket games in summer! Where is all the money from rates going?" that person added.
