Jennifer Aniston on fame, Friends and her BFF, Adam Sandler

She is one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood. Now Jennifer Aniston opens up about the role that made her famous - Rachel on Friends.

She’s one of the most famous women in Hollywood, known as much for her acting as for the intense interest in her private life. And the 54-year-old continues to be a major force both onscreen and off (including as an executive producer).

Now, in her latest role, Aniston teams up once again with her longtime friend Adam Sandler for Murder Mystery 2.

But as the former Friends star admits to Stellar, there are some roles she has lost out on during her career – and apparently, it was because Drew Barrymore landed them. Read the full interview below.

Stellar: As an actor, you move regularly between drama and comedy. Drama tends to be more revered. Is that fair?
Jennifer Aniston: First of all, I do love comedy. It’s my salve. It makes me feel so [good]. But drama is great, I love them both. Drama can be more respected, and I think they both should be.

S: You’re still best friends with your Friends co-star Courteney Cox. As well asbeing the godmother to her daughter Coco, you were there when she recently received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. What was that experience like?
J: It was so nice. First of all, it meant so much to her. Our stars are kind of close, they are on the same block, actually. And so is Laura Dern’s. We tried to get them to put them even closer together, but they wouldn’t do it – I’m just kidding. But it was a special day and it was nice for her to be celebrated and acknowledged like that, even though it was pouring with rain.

S: Your latest role is in Netflix’s action comedy Murder Mystery 2 with Adam Sandler. The first Murder Mystery movie in 2019 was set in Monaco and Italy, the sequel has you in Paris. Is there scope for a third film and, if so, would you consider Australia?
J: Yes – to go Down Under? That’s a great idea!

S: In Murder Mystery 2, you and Adam are reprising your roles as Audrey and Nick Spitz – an accident-prone, crime-solving couple from New York. Are there any roles from your past that you would like to revisit? Or ones that you wouldn’t want to play again?

J: Well, obviously not Audrey Spitz, I’ve got to go back to that. I feel like they are all my babies. I always love Rachel and go back to Rachel [from Friends]. I can’t escape her, actually. But I feel like I have done them all; wrap them up and put them in a neat pile and put them away. [A] hotel actually gave me a pillowcase with all my characters’ names on it – and there were a couple I couldn’t remember! Adam was so rattled by it that he sat up all night Googling them and then he gave that information to me [the next day] with my coffee.

S: Given how prolifically you work in Hollywood, a doona might soon be needed to capture all your characters …

J: [Laughs] Oh dear, that would be lovely. I have kept [the pillowcase], it was a very sweet gift. I might give it to Adam for his birthday. I hope this doesn’t spoil the surprise.

S: You and Adam have now made three films together, including Just Go With It in 2011. How did you meet?

J: We have known each other over 30 years. We met in a deli through a friend; I had eggs with ham and cheese, and he had French toast and a chocolate milk.

S: Did you know then that you’d work together in the future?
J: No! I had always wanted to be in an Adam Sandler movie, but Drew Barrymore kept taking the jobs.

Murder Mystery 2 premieres Friday on Netflix.
