Bec Judd shrugs off the critics

While she admits her recent house-warming party “got a lot of attention”, Rebecca Judd says she’s simply too busy to read any of the stories written about Juddchella.

Television and radio presenter Rebecca Judd reveals what she and her family will be getting up to this Christmas, why she doesn’t read what’s written about her and whether we can expect a Juddchella 2.0.

In my line of work, being public is just part and parcel of life. I don’t share everything that’s going on but to have the career I do, I realise sharing is part of my job.

One thing I don’t mind sharing at all is what products I like. If I find something good, I’m one of those people who needs to tell the world about it – whether it’s a fab face cream, a pair of sneakers or those $2 bowls from Kmart.

They are still the best bowls I’ve got at my house! I think that’s why I have this influence where things sell out; people believe me and it’s authentic.

I never post things [on social media] I’m not into. It’s aspirational but still attainable, and I’m always conscious of that.

I’m looking forward to putting the phone away and clocking off this Christmas, though. It’s important to just be in the moment.

Sometimes it can take a while to switch off. There are a couple of days where you pick up the phone and check it, and it’s just an automatic reaction. I always find once I’ve switched off during summer, it’s really hard to switch back on.

Now that I know what’s going on with my Christmas schedule, I had better start thinking about that all-important Christmas outfit. I think anything that can take you from day to night is a good choice.

But you’ve got to have back-up options. It’s all about being casual and relaxed. It’s not a nightclub, after all – it’s Christmas. Dress for comfort but class as well.

I’ve been working with [shopping centre] Chadstone as an ambassador all year, which is fun – I like choosing things from Dolce & Gabbana there, and I love Sandro, too. And I’m rapt that designer sneakers are still in.

I don’t know what your Christmas schedule looks like, but mine is usually a lunch and then a family dinner, so a long maxi or a beautiful, comfortable dress that you can go from flats to heels in is a must. I know it’s a cliché, but you can’t go wrong with red during the festive season.

This Christmas I’m looking forward to spending some good quality time with my family [Judd shares four children with her husband, former AFL player Chris Judd]. We’ve moved into our house, so we are the hosts this year.

My mum is coming over, plus my sister, her husband and two children, and Chris’s family and grandparents, too. For our festive table, we usually have a few decorations, seafood and turkey, and I make a chocolate pav every year. It’s very basic.

It’s been such a busy year. We worked really hard to get the house done in time [their new home in Melbourne is reportedly worth $7.3 million and they recently had a house-warming party called Juddchella to celebrate], and so to have our family here to celebrate with us will be really special.

Will there be a second Juddchella? No comment on that one! I’m focused on Christmas and family, so I’m not sure yet. The party got a lot of attention on my Instagram, but I don’t really read any of [the stuff written about me].

It’s just clickbait. I’m too busy being busy. I’m a mum of four kids and I have got a million jobs. I just haven’t got time to waste, really. I feel like I’ve evolved past all that, too. It’s been a long

time, probably 15 years in this industry. I just don’t let it bother me at all. It was a lot of fun and it was good to celebrate moving into the house.

And 2019 has been huge. For us, working towards this house and renovating has been the biggest thing.

There are lots of career highlights, too – launching my new range for Jaggad, travelling around with [Nine Network travel show] Postcards, working with Chadstone and hosting [KIISS Network’s drive show] 3pm Pick Up. I love radio. It’s an all-women team and it’s a real buzz to be a part of.

New Year’s Eve is our wedding anniversary. We will be celebrating nine years. It’s always low-key, we forget about it and then on the day, it’s like “Oh, gosh.” We’ll have to do something special next year for 10 years.
