A bride has caused controversy on TikTok after sharing five 'enforced' rules for her wedding day that she says her guests hated.

While most bridal guests are respectful and there to show their love for the happy couple, there are often one or two who go too hard on the booze, or cause a scene that detracts from the otherwise beautiful event.

To guard against this from happening at her wedding, the bride named Ivy in the US created a set of strict rules that she shared from her TikTok account @ivy.eventideas

Guests "hated" the enforced rules

In a scrolling carousel on TikTok, the woman captions the viral post with, “What do you think about these controversial wedding rules?” and begins by saying how much her guests “hated” them.

The first strict rule is that her DJ will not take your song requests. She adds, “just go to the club if you want your songs played”. Yikes.

The second rule involves guests not being allowed to hijack her expensive photographer for their own party snaps.

“I did not pay $10,000 for random portraits,'' Ivy surmises.

Rule number three is that guests can’t bring plus ones.

“I’m not stressing and paying for strangers I’ve never met.”

"No Alcohol"

Rule four is more fun, as Ivy requests guests join a shared photo album by using a QR code so she can keep track of everyone’s happy snaps of the event, and rule five is “no alcohol”.

Ivy concludes by saying: “I want my guests to actually remember this day.”

With over a million views and many thousands of comments, the post struck quite the chord with people who could not believe this bride’s approach to her big day.

Many were outraged by the rules: “‘I didn’t pay for random portraits’; aren’t they family and friends to you?!”

“I will remember the day as one of the most boring days of my life,” one joked and a second followed up with further sarcasm, “''Do you even have any friends you can invite? You sound like a fun person.''

A third cheekily remarked that, “you don’t need a big party if you don’t even like your guests.”

"People asking for pics is cute!"

Even a photographer had something to say about the second big rule.

"As a wedding photographer people asking for pics with their other half is cute IMO and gives you cute pics of your guests looking their best and literally takes two seconds.”

Others felt the bride was completely within her rights for doing whatever she wanted on her big day.

“These are all completely acceptable boundaries to have at a massive event you're paying for,” said one.

“People who dislike the no alcohol thing - take time to reflect on why that is, maybe?”

A second TikTokker felt the same about the banned booze: “Hard agree on the no alcohol rule! I don’t drink and don’t like being around drunk people. I don’t want people at my wedding who can’t celebrate without alcohol.”

"Your day, your rules"

Finally one took a measured approach, adding: “Does not sound like the wedding for me but good for you! It’s your day and you get to make the rules.”
