Bride heartbroken after being trolled for her ‘trashy’ wedding

A newlywed couple have had to cut people out after they shamed them for their budget wedding in a library function room.

A bride says she lost friends and family over her budget wedding where she chose to wear jeans and a plaid shirt over a traditional, expensive wedding dress.

Amie Barron, 22, married her now-husband Hunter, 24, on January 26, wearing matching outfits for their wedding in a room at a public library in West Virginia, a landlocked state in eastern USA.

The couple aimed to keep costs down, spending only about $1000 ($1500 AUD) on the ceremony, with $300 ($475) of that allocated to new cowboy boots for Ms Barron and Hunter to wear at the wedding.

Another $480 ($760) went towards a photographer, while the bride kept things budget-friendly by doing her own hair and makeup and organising the music and food herself.

Twenty guests attended the nuptials, and the couple believe they saved about $10,000 ($15,800) on the bash, instead deciding to spend that amount on a two-week honeymoon.

“Almost a week married to my best friend and I can’t stop rewatching our wedding,” Ms Barron wrote over a now-viral clip of the moment they became husband and wife.

As they held hands and said ‘I do’, the pair wore jeans and black-and-white flannelette shirts, as “that’s what we usually wear”.

“Best day of my life,” she captioned the video, which now has 3.4 million views.

In another clip with 4.9 million views, she details the “unconventional” things they did at their wedding to save cash.

Aside from hosting it in a banquet room at the library, the pair also chose to forgo an aisle runner, believing it was a “waste” since you just throw them away afterwards.

She described the day as a “fairytale” but commenters didn’t get that impression and called her “crazy” for not dressing up, labelling the whole event as “ugly”.

“I’ve always known I never wanted a big wedding. I think some people do want that, but I knew right away that wasn’t me,” she said, according to Kennedy News.

“Everybody told me while we were planning that I would regret it, so it was very controversial for people who heard what we were doing and didn’t really support us.”

“It’s been a struggle, especially after the wedding. We’ve received a lot of nasty messages and posts on social media from people who weren’t particularly supportive, and we’ve had to cut them out of our lives,” she added.

One comment read: “So basically, this was just another day. Nothing special about it”.

Another person wrote, “I’m sorry this happened to you,” while another commented, “This looks depressing”.

However, some people were more supportive than others, arguing you don’t need to have a big day for it to be special.

“You know what? Hell yeah. They’re both super happy. She found someone to love, and he loves her. We could all be so lucky. Best of luck to you guys,” one fan praised.

“Honestly, I’m usually a hater,” another comment began. “But this seems awesome. No need to try hard or spend heaps of money for one night”.

“I don’t know why people are making fun of this. It isn’t about the wedding, it’s about the MARRIAGE,” someone else concluded.

Ms Barron is continuing to share videos about the day and has agreed with her husband that they aren’t going to let the hate affect their marriage.
