The course of making love doesn’t always run smoothly, a fact proven by a new survey by on the sex life of Australians which has revealed the most common sex injuries.

Popular sex toy brand LoveHoney surveyed over 1000 Australians to gather the intel on bedroom disasters, and a whopping 42 per cent of us have experienced an injury while doing the deed.

Women bore the brunt of these injuries, with 47 per cent having dealt with accidental pain in the bedroom, while only 33 per cent of men said the same.

And while you might think an increase in age might lend to an increased chance of sustaining a sex-related injury, the opposite was true: People aged 25 to 35 were found to be the most susceptible age bracket to sustaining sex injuries at a whopping 66 per cent of respondents.

When it comes to sex specifics, it turns out that doggy style, missionary and ‘69’ are the most hazardous sex positions – not to mention you should probably just stay out of the shower, as one in four Aussies have experienced their sex injuries there.

And more than half of Australians have broken the bed frame during sex, leading to injury, and frankly I’ve never been prouder of our country.

Top 10 most common sex injuries

Coming in the top spot are bruises, which should surprise no one. They were closely followed by carpet burn and the dreaded Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).

“Bruises can be mild to moderate and occur when capillaries under the skin burst,” sexologist Chantelle Otten said. “Hickeys, spanking and rough sex are the most common culprits of bruising.”

Pulled muscles, vaginal and anal tears, twisted ankles, haemorrhoids and back injuries also rounded out the top 10 list, proving that sex is a fun but dangerous sport.
