Siblings Kirra serves up stunning beachfront vista

From takeaway to gourmet, a glam new restaurant with breathtaking beach views has popped up at Kirra, delivering one of the best vistas of any eatery in Queensland.

A wave-spray from the ocean, sand blowing at its door, sits the new Siblings restaurant on Kirra Beach. Boasting uninterrupted sea views and a vista to the jagged Surfers Paradise skyline, this is dining prime real estate.

Owned by the Gold Coast City Council, the heritage-listed site was formerly a Pizza Hut, with local hospitality family, the Ciancis (Edgewater and The Fish Emporium, Isle of Capri), winning the tender last year to transform it into a culinary hotspot.

And they’ve done just that with Siblings.

Hiring local design team Space Cubed to handle the renovation, the end result is a glam, open, indoor-outdoor dining room that cleverly echoes the history of the building through the likes of fluted window panes popular in the 1920s when the original structure was built; while keeping things contemporary and beachy with dusty pink and soft green chairs, white VJs, pale wood, rattan elements and louvres.

Just as coastal-cool is the menu – an all-day affair that runs from 11am until late, moving through light and fresh options such as freshly shucked oysters, prawn cocktails, chargrilled seafood and salads to fried favourites such as salt and pepper calamari and fish and chips, and pastas and mains such as steak frites, orecchiette with pork and fennel sausage and ricotta gnocchi.

There’s even a signature surf and turf featuring a 500g black Angus chateaubriand, grilled Moreton Bay bugs and king prawns at $150, for a retro touch.

From the raw and chilled section, oysters with a seaweed mignonette represent far better value at $5 each than the raw scallops, which are a hefty $24 for two with a barely detectable citrus dressing.

Meanwhile, also skip the just-fine fish tacos ($20) for the jamon croquettes ($22) – a quartet of crumbed and deep-fried balls of oozy bechamel laced with Spanish ham and sweet manchego cheese sitting in puddles of aioli. Terrific!

The trophy for dish of the day, however, goes to the bug and prawn risotto ($48).

Topped with half a grilled Moreton Bay bug in its shell, the rice is bursting with fresh, just-cooked prawns and a tomato-ey pink champagne cream for which it’s worth throwing all decorum out the window and licking the plate clean.

It pairs perfectly with a glass of Chaffey Bros Bluhenpunkt gewürztraminer from the considered wine list, which keeps to mostly Australia and New Zealand examples of
classic styles.

There is also plenty of options available under Coravin for those who dare to try something a little different.

Or diners can have fun exploring the lengthy cocktail list, which offers kooky signatures, including one containing Caramilk, plays on classics, an abundance of beach-friendly spritzes, mojitos, and gin and tonics, a host of well-made margaritas, including one blended with passionfruit, Cointreau and Grand Marnier, and much more.

Guests are encouraged to finish with one of these liquid numbers, or choose from four desserts and a cheese platter.

The Snickersphere ($19) is remarkably reminiscent of a frozen version of the famous chocolate bar with chocolate parfait, peanut butter mousse, a chocolate shell and
salted caramel.

After only opening last month in the midst of a pandemic and critical staff shortages, Siblings is already proving worthy of its envied beachside position.
