It was a three-dress wedding for Tua-Angeline Ale when she married Joseph Field recently. She wore a traditional gown and veil, changed into a Zimmermann dress for the reception and then into cultural dress for a traditional dance.
The Mount Gravatt East couple, who met at South Brisbane’s iSEE Church in 2013, had their ceremony at the same venue on August 15 this year. The wedding had originally been planned for April 18 but was postponed three weeks beforehand due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions.
When the couple did marry it was with 100 guests, the numbers reduced and interstate and international family were unable to attend.
The reception, with a modern chrome-on-white theme, was held at The Joinery in West End and the couple’s first dance was to Samoan traditional music.
How did the proposal take place? We were driving to the Tweed Coast with a surprise hanging from the collar of our puppy, Maltese poodle Moses.
What was the standout moment of the day?
The first glimpse of each other at the end of the aisle, seeing each other was breathtaking!
What would you do differently? Absolutely nothing, it was all so perfect.
What would you spend more or less on?
Nothing, as all was amazing. We spent money on the things that mattered most to us, fabulous food, outstanding decor and styling, jaw-dropping florals and the dress of dreams.
Honeymoon? It was supposed to be Bali then the Tweed Coast but the borders shut so we found a beautiful holiday house The Sundeck in Coolangatta for a week then had another week at The Calile Hotel in James Street in Fortitude Valley.
Best advice for other couples planning a wedding? The same advice we were given, which was to enjoy every moment! Live in the moment and love it. Seek out the best in the biz as they carry the load, know their lane like no one else and provide the best of advice and care. They bring their expertise to your day.
What were your emotions around changing plans because of COVID? We were at peace with it as it was beyond our control. We had a reduced guest list as interstate and overseas family members were unable to attend. We also provided hand sanitisers, and live streamed the wedding. We also altered aspects of the reception to make up for no dancing.
What helped you get through the stress of changing plans? The unconditional love and support for each other and from our family, friends and our faith in God.
Advice for other couples whose weddings are impacted by coronavirus? It is worth the wait!
