Brisbane Broncos rising star Jordan Riki has faced his fair share of difficult interviews but a question from a young fan has left the player blushing.
In The Courier-Mail’s new online series, Tiny Edition, where children interview celebrities, 11-year-old NRL tragic Sophie Fraser covered the big topics in her one-on-one chat with the Broncos back-rower.
As the latest crop of young Broncos players attract a new generation of fans, Sophie put to Riki how he felt about “half the girls in Queensland having a crush on him?”
“Oh man, I don’t know,” said a visibly embarrassed Riki with a laugh.
“It’s a bit weird I guess, I just have to thank my family genetics for blessing me.
“It’s funny, but it is what it is.”
Riki, 23, laughed it off saying he thought his teammates Reece Walsh and Pat Carrigan were more of a hit with the young adoring fans.
It was one of many surprising things the Bronco revealed including how he spent his first NRL paycheck, his post-game McDonald’s order (impressive) and his biggest inspiration.
Riki showed his sentimental side with his love and adoration for his mother, Janelle Riki Waaka.
“My mum single raised me for most of my life so I owe a lot to her,” he shares.
“She worked long hours but she always made sure there was food on the table for my brothers and sisters.
“I’ll forever be in debt with her and I can’t explain how much she means to me.”
Riki kicks off Tiny Edition with the series featuring interviews each week with little people and big celebrities.
The stars share everything from what they were like as kids, impromptu karaoke on the desk and their most embarrassing moments with next week’s guest, former yellow Wiggle and great Australian children’s entertainer, Emma Watkins.
