Matt Renshaw’s amazing hinterland wedding

It was a who’s who of the cricket world at this stunning Sunshine Coast wedding.

Cricketer Matt Renshaw and partner Josie Harvey tied the knot in May at a stunning Sunshine Coast hinterland ceremony.

The couple married at the picturesque Flaxton Gardens near Maleny on May 14 this year in front of 75 family and friends, including some of Renshaw’s triumphant Queensland Bulls teammates.

“It was the first venue we looked at it and we fell in love with the views,” says Harvey, whose brother flew in from the UK to attend the ceremony.

Although it was initially planned for April 9, the couple delayed their wedding to cater for the extended Sheffield Shield season, which Queensland won earlier this year.

Harvey wore a gown by Sydney’s Velani by Nicky, while Renshaw wore a black tuxedo from bespoke Melbourne brand Mr Cuff and accessories by Australian luxury brand Arcis.

He carried his late grandfathers’ watches in his pocket to include them in the day.

“It had been a couple of stressed weeks. When I first saw Josie walking down the aisle, it was pretty exciting,” Renshaw says.

The former Australian opening batsman proposed on Good Friday last year during a backyard picnic at the couple’s Wavell Heights home in Brisbane’s northside.

Renshaw met Harvey, a law student, at a barbecue at Bribie Island in 2016 and they have dated for five years.

Guests at the ceremony included Bulls teammates Usman Khawaja, with wife Rachel, Jimmy Peirson and Mitch Swepson as well as Erin Holland and Rebekah Labuschagne.

The couple danced their first song to Can’t Help Falling In Love by Kina Grannis and stayed at the luxurious Wolgan Valley resort in NSW for their honeymoon.

What was the standout moment of the day?

Our first dance.

What would you do differently?

Nothing about the wedding but we would have loved to stay on our honeymoon longer.

One thing you wish people told you about planning a wedding?

That time goes quickly.

Best advice for other couples planning a wedding?

Take your time with planning and enjoy the process of it. Don’t let anyone pressure you into how they want things planned. And don’t feel like you have to invite people.

When did you decide to change plans?

Late last year when Matt’s season was changed due to a later start, with uncertainty on how Covid would impact the timing of their games.

Emotions around changing plans?

A bit sad but also happy that it gave us more time for planning.
