My Saturday Ritual
Lisa Curry, 59, Olympian and co-founder of Happy Healthy You
What time do you wake up on a Saturday?
It really depends on when our dog Mali jumps up on the bed, but it’s generally around 6.30am.
If we’ve binged on a TV series, it can be 8.30am but I’m horrified if I see 9am.
Local coffee haunt?
You’ll find me enjoying a mocha from my local favourite Peachester Cafe, or at Shotgun Espresso in Maleny.
Best spot for date night?
My favourite date activity is without question going for a drive in one of my husband’s (Mark Tabone’s) classic cars and having a picnic somewhere.
Favourite takeaway?
Always Mexican. Specifically taquitos and nachos and washing it down with sangria.
Favourite pub/bar to catch up with friends?
I’m definitely more of a pop by your house kind of friend. We tend to visit each other’s places versus catching up at a pub or bar.
When travelling though, we visit all the old classic pubs like The Pub in the Scrub, just down the dirt road from the Sheepyard Inn outside Lightning Ridge.
Best thing about your neighbourhood?
I love how private and quiet our neighbourhood is with its adventurous nuances. You never know what’s behind people’s quirky front gates.
Where and when do you exercise?
I am lucky enough to have a full gym at home, so I don’t have to walk far to get in a daily workout.
In saying that, I enjoy a daily walk around our property, just going to the back of the property and to front gate is a good 40-minute walk.
Best hidden treasure in Queensland?
Town of 1770 – I love its natural and untouched beauty. It’s the type of place you want to return to as soon as it’s in your rearview mirror.
Favourite place to holiday in Queensland?
Any caravan park where we can take the Kombi!
We recently purchased a pink Happy Healthy You license plate to put on our new done-up coaster bus as well.
Mark and I love being out in nature versus a hotel, and enjoy places that have great walking spots with a good bite to eat. We recently took a trip to Cotton Tree and had the grandkids visit – pure bliss.
What’s your perfect Saturday?
Jump in the Kombi, head to the Eumundi markets to enjoy a good coffee and Tibetan momos, after browsing the markets make my way back via all my favourite shops at Noosaville and Peregian, enjoy an afternoon sleep or walk, and finish the day with a BBQ or homemade pizza.
