‘It made the entrance... and the photos’: Bride’s top wedding day tip

This couple met at a housewarming and married seven years on in a wonderful wedding with some unexpected additions.

Scarlett Judd-Parolin and Harry Hannagan tied the knot in a classic black and white-themed wedding at Carool in the Tweed hinterland.

The Nerang couple, who have been together for seven years, celebrated their big day on July 22 this year before 100 guests, who all watched on as they enjoyed their first dance to Can’t Help Falling in Love, made famous by Elvis.

How did you meet?

Scarlett: We met at our friend’s housewarming party sitting by a fire next to each other. Since then we have not been apart. Couldn’t keep him away.

Where was the  proposal?

Harry shipped me away for a surprise holiday to Hamilton Island. Being too excited we had one too many Champagnes the first night and unbeknown to me, he had planned a helicopter trip to Whitehaven Beach. On this trip, feeling heavy headed, he popped the question at the most beautiful, secluded beach. It was one of the most special moments of my life.

What was your hen’s night celebration?

My bridal party surprised me with a stunning Surfers Paradise apartment on level 44 overlooking the ocean and hinterland. We went to Cali Beach to celebrate with the mums on the first night. The second day we had a boozy brunch which led into an evening of Magic Mike men and frozen cocktail machines in the apartment.

Buck’s night?

Harry’s bucks night was more basic – ha! His friends arranged an apartment in Broadbeach and they went to Top Golf to celebrate with 25 of his closest friends and family. The next day they went to Broadbeach lawn bowls and celebrated in their apartment.

How did you choose your wedding venue?  I chose Summergrove as my sister highly recommended the venue. She owns Wilde Visual, who we used for our photography  and videography, and has been to the venue many times. After visiting the venue I knew it was the one. The staff, the views, the barn, the food, everything was perfect! I chose the outdoor ceremony and I am so glad we did. The photos turned out incredible and the day turned it on for us.

What would you spend more or less on?

We are honestly blown away with the wedding day we had and wouldn’t change a thing. It was everything we wanted and it turned out to be the best day of our lives.

How did you go about choosing your wedding dress? I arranged an appointment with Luv Bridal and asked my mum and maid of honour to come to help. After choosing six dresses to try on and thinking I knew what I wanted before arriving I stumbled across the dress! It was perfect, as soon as I tried it on we all knew and agreed it was the one. Especially the way the back looked.

What was the most stressful part of wedding planning? Ensuring I had not missed anyone on the invite list or seating chart! With handling 100 people there is room for error and I did double-up on one name.

Any unique or surprising details about your wedding? My second dress was the unique surprise of the day. Looking back I almost didn’t get a second dress however it made the entrance to the reception and the photos!

What was the standout moment of the day? For me the standout moment was the first look with my father. A month prior we lost my beautiful Grandad and having that moment with my father meant the world. For Harry, it would be the ceremony. Having all of our friends and family surrounding us was incredible. Our celebrant was an absolute legend. We know her personally. It took the anxiety and stress out of the ceremony. Everyone agreed, she made the day!

What would you do differently?

Nothing! The day was literally insane and everything we hoped for.

Honeymoon?  We arranged a 10-night, all-inclusive holiday to Le Meridien Khao Lak in Thailand, which has been amazing and everything we wanted after a busy wedding.

Top wedding hack? Book vendors in advance! If you wait too long prices do increase.

Best advice for other couples planning a wedding? Just enjoy it. Make a list. Check it twice!
