Brisbane radio broadcaster and Olympic tragic David “Luttsy” Lutteral has sat down with QWeekend for a QandA on his rituals and shock exit of one of his colleagues.

Lutteral, aged in his 40s, shed insight into the departure of his old Nova 106.9 co-host Susie O’Neill and her replacement Nikki Obsorne.

He also revealed his favourite Saturday activities including going from his Ascot home to the races, out for drinks and to the beach.

What time do you wake up on a Saturday?

Heavily dependent on the night before. Somewhere between 9am and 1pm.

Local coffee haunt?Don’t drink coffee but espresso martini local favourite is Herve’s Restaurant & Bar on Collingwood St, Albion.

Favourite restaurant? For steak – The 203 (the Valley). Seafood – The Tillerman (CBD), also Libertine (Petrie Tce).

Favourite takeaway? Domino’s for pizza and Good Lookin Rooster for delicious chicken and salads and their world famous Le Coq salt!

Favourite pub or bar to catch up with friends?

Locally, Brekky Creek Hotel, Norths Leagues Club and Gallopers. In town, Stan’s Lounge and Mr Percival’s at Howard Smith Wharves.

When do you exercise?I’m going to try to get to the Nudgee College athletics track this year as part of my weekly routine. Athletics makes me feel good. Most days I spend a couple of hours at Function Well, Newstead, using their amazing Wellness Centre.

Best hidden treasure in Queensland? I think Brisbane is a hidden gem on a global scale and I can’t wait to see the amazing impact Brisbane 2032 will have on all our lives. I’m also amazed how relaxed and underpopulated Coolangatta and Rainbow Bay on the Gold Coast are compared to Sydney’s hectic beaches. But don’t tell anyone.

What’s your idea of the perfect Saturday?

A day at the races, Eagle Farm or Doomben, laughing with mates over a lot of XXXX Golds.

How are you feeling about this year, and your new co-host?I’m really excited, like I am every year. Last year was probably my most productive yet and brought with it new opportunities and friendships with some truly remarkable people which unequivocally is the best part of my life and career. I’m looking forward to pursuing my passions again relentlessly in 2025 with people, events and places I love, including the World Athletics Championships and World Expo 2025, both in Japan. I don’t love Nikki (Osborne) yet because that would be weird but I sure as hell can’t wait to jibber with her and my old flame Bradnam this year. I think people are going to be surprised at what we bring to the table.

Was it sad to say goodbye to Susie O’Neill? I told Susie from day one to follow her heart and passions in life and I’m so happy she’s embarking on new adventures. I’m truly honoured to consider myself a close friend of hers. As much as I’ll miss seeing her each morning, her happiness and future plans outweigh radio a million times over.
