While the beautiful Australian beaches will always be a big fashion influence (she is a Summer Bay native after all), Sophie Dillman’s closet is filled with fashion treasures from cowboy boots through to a crisp, classic white tee.
A self-confessed “tomboy”, Sophie values comfort (I’ll be heading to Lowes for those tracksuits!) in her carefree way of putting together an outfit that results in cool perfection.
How would you describe your personal style?
I would say I have a very fresh, relaxed style. A bit retro and quite tomboyish.
Who are your style icons?
I love Ashley Graham, Bree McCann, a bit of young Drew Barrymore. All real, beautiful and individual women.
What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe?
I have a few pieces of clothing that were my grandmother’s: a silk jacket and an orange lace dress that she wore to my mum’s wedding. I have my eye on my great- grandmother’s fur, but Mum isn’t willing to part with that yet … (Mum, you live in Brisbane. You don’t need it!)
What are your favourite brands?
They vary. I like supporting Australian brands. Open in my browser right now are the online stores Aje, Effie Kats, Levi’s, Cotton On Body. I wear a lot of activewear, P.E Nation and Lorna Jane in particular.
Have you ever made a style faux pas?
I used to forget to wear shoes at acting school. I regularly have holes in things that I don’t realise, and I constantly spill things.
What is the most you have ever spent on an outfit?
I just did it, actually. I have purchased myself a good black suit. I’m very excited. I feel very grown-up.
What is the most surprising thing in your wardrobe?
It’s common knowledge among my friends and family that the comfiest tracksuits are from Lowes Menswear.
Top three wardrobe must-haves?
Crisp white T-shirt; supportive black gym tights; and as I have endometriosis, when I’m really bloated, I need a comfy dress.
What is the most sentimental item in your wardrobe and why?
I have a tie beach shirt I got at Straddie when I was 15. I also could never get rid of my lucky zootie. Oh! I also have my nappy bag that my aunt gave to my mother when I was born – it’s my favourite handbag.
What would you buy if money was no object?
I’ve always wanted to go into a luxury store and actually buy something. But when you have money and want to go shopping you can never find anything, and when you have no money you all of a sudden have to have everything in the store.
Summer or winter fashion?
Summer. I’m a beach lady through and through.
Minimalist or clothes hoarder?
I would say minimalist.
Heels or sneakers?
Sneakers.
Is there anything you’ve regretted throwing out?
More of my mother’s and auntie’s clothes.
How many pairs of shoes do you own? And your favourite pair?
Maybe 15 pairs? But my favourite pair would be my cowboy boots, bought in Nashville.
