Georgie Taylor-Brown and Jack Jervis waited months to reveal their biggest news yet, surprising their guests with the bombshell during their wedding speech.
The Enoggera couple, who have been together for four years, waited for their wedding speech to tell their guests they were expecting their first baby. “Everyone went crazy,” says Georgie of the moment.
“(There was) lots of cheering and a few people with happy tears. It was a moment I’ll never forget.”
The couple tied the knot on March 6 this year at Summergrove Estate in the Tweed hinterland before 53 guests in an all-white celebration. From the wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses and flowers, the strict white theme carried through almost all the decor for a “fresh and clean” look.
How did you meet? Georgie: We met at Fitstop Ashgrove, but only a quick hello was exchanged at the time. The next day I decided to do some Instagram stalking to find Jack and follow him but didn’t think anything would come of it. Shortly after, Jack followed me back and sent me a private message and the rest is history. Our first few messages were talking about the normal things like work, our dogs etc before Jack asked me out for a casual mid-week dinner to Little Red Dumpling. After that night we quickly spent most of our time together.
The proposal? Jack proposed while we were at Fraser Island in 2022. We did the lighthouse walk and he proposed while we were at the top as it overlooks one side of the island.
Theme? White! The decision behind the all-white theme was definitely from me. I’m not someone who wears a lot of colour and loves a fresh, clean aesthetic so it all had to be white. Everything from the flowers to my bridesmaids’ dresses, were white.
How did you choose your wedding venue? We wanted a hinterland venue and when we looked at Summergrove we just knew it would be perfect as everything was on site.
What was the budget for your wedding? $55,000.
What would you spend more or less on? We valued spending a good amount of our budget on our photographer/videographer, band and alcohol as we wanted a big party and to forever remember the day.
How did you go about choosing your wedding dress? The dress I chose was the second wedding dress I tried on and I just knew in that moment it was the dress. I tried on about eight dresses in total but none of the others compared.
What were your thoughts seeing the bride walk down the aisle? Jack: I’ve never been more nervous in my life. When I saw her the emotions came over me and I couldn’t help but tear up a little, which is not like me at all.
What was the most stressful part of wedding planning? We loved planning our wedding and didn’t feel stressed at any point. We had incredible vendors who made us feel confident during the entire process.
Any unique or surprising details about your wedding? We announced our pregnancy
during our reception speech. We were 14 weeks on the date of our wedding. Originally our wedding was booked for September 29, however on December 30 last year we found out we were pregnant and quickly went into panic mode in regards to the wedding. We knew we would either have to bring it forward dramatically (as I didn’t want to be super pregnant when getting married) or postpone one to two years after baby was born. As we had all our vendors locked in and all deposits were paid we decide to ask all of them if it was possible to move it forward to March and if they all had the same date free then we would move it forward.
It was meant to be; each vendor had March 6 available. After locking in our new date we realised I would be 14 weeks at the wedding and figured it was the perfect way to tell all the people closest to us at once.
How did you reveal the news? In the final part of our wedding speech we announced it by saying, “There’s a small saying we all learnt back in primary school. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage. And with that being said we would love to announce the arrival of Baby Jervis coming September!” Everyone went crazy! Lots of cheering and a few people with happy tears. It was a moment I’ll never forget. Having a baby was always on the cards for us but I think we thought it would take longer for us to fall pregnant as that’s what you hear so often these days. Our little girl was due on September 7 however made an early arrival on July 31.
Bridesmaid/groomsmen protocol? My bridesmaids had to pay for their dress and shoes. Our groomsmen only had to purchase their boots and a white-collared shirt.
