Watch as a Brisbane man cuts off a plastic ring from a struggling possums neck

A possum found lying in “horrendous heat” after having a plastic ring put around its neck has been saved by a good Samaritan. SEE THE VIDEO

A Brisbane man has shared a disturbing video of the moment he found a possum lying on a path in “horrendous heat” with a plastic ring wrapped tightly around its neck.

In the video posted to Reddit, the man approaches the possum which appears to be unable to move due to the ring.

“You alright buddy...you poor thing,” the man says in the video.

“Not sure how my man got his head stuck in it, but it was so tight I couldn’t just slide it off,” he wrote in the post accompanying the video.

After having the ring removed from its neck the footage shows the possum continuing to lie on the brick path, taking slow movements as the man gives the animal some comforting pats.

“Kept a close eye on him after this and gave him plenty of water,” he wrote in the post.

“Thankfully it looks like he’s made a full recovery and is chilling in his normal tree with plenty of shade.”

More than 100 people commented on the post, with many praising the man for saving the “poor creature”.

“Jeez… so damn sad, but great you could help,” one user said.

“Well done possum lord! Poor little mate,” another added.
