Three dogs have reportedly died and another was left in a critical condition after a suspected baiting incident at a popular Brisbane walking path.
A business owner took to social media to warn pet owners after a spate of dog deaths near the off-leash dog walking area at the Kedron Brook Bikeway.
“For those who visit Kedron Brook Dog Park, please be cautious with taking your pooches there, a friend’s dog and others ingested something poisonous there on Sunday,” the post read.
“Mushrooms or possible baiting. Three of the dogs have passed away already while my friend’s dog has been in critical care since.
“So horrible as it’s a popular dog park and I was only there two weeks ago.”
The dog owner said their puppy had tested positive to a toxic substance possibly a fungis.
“My girl is out of ICU and home,” the post read.
“She’s still a bit wobbly and out to it. However, the tremors are getting further apart and starting to see windows of my cheeky pup.
“Whether intentional or natural, we had been at Kedron Brook where this has been reported, just keep a careful eye on your pups.”
Kedron Veterinary Clinic said it had been inundated with calls from concerned owners regarding the incident however, they had not treated any unwell animals.
“At this stage, we have not seen evidence of any unwell dogs and believe it to be safe to continue walking your pooches in the area,” a post on the clinic’s social media read.
“We will keep you updated if any more information comes to hand.”
The Kedron Brook was one of the hardest hit locations by the February floods severe weather event, with key sections of the bikeway, creek and surrounding green spaces critically impacted.
