Surfing legend Joel Parkinson has had frightening close encounter with a monster king brown snake during a mountain bike ride near his Gold Coast home.
Parkinson shared an Instagram story on Thursday of him and close mate Api Robin,
the husband of comedian Celeste Barber, tackling the new Uki Mountain Bike Park in the Tweed Valley in northern NSW.
The pair were startled by the appearance of the king brown snake slithering across the bike track before menacingly rearing up.
“Look at the size of that thing … that’s a man-eater, man,” “Parko”, the 2012 world surfing champ, says on the video.
“Mate, it wanted to have a go at me. It reared up, I almost ran over it. Holy f…ck you should see it on the track, I came flying ‘round the corner.”
Robin added: “Holy f..ck. It looks like a f…cken taipan, I mean a cobra.”
Parkinson tagged Robin, who has the handle @hothusband, in the video along with a “poo” emoji.
It was Parkinson’s first go on the 6.4km mountain bike track just completed by Tweed Shire Council.
