A “five-foot” red-bellied black snake, described as one of the biggest that snake catchers have seen, has been removed from a Sunshine Coast property.
A Palmview woman spotted the snake on her property and called in Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 who safely bagged the venomous reptile.
“That is about as big as a red-belly gets,” the handler says in the footage.
“That there, that’s the biggest red-belly I’ve caught in a couple of years.”
The catcher could not contain his excitement as he released the snake back into the wild - and well away from the property on which it was found.
“How good was that, just look how thick his body is,” the handler said.
Red-bellied black snakes are common in Queensland and while its venom can cause significant illness, deaths are uncommon.
