A QUEENSLAND resident is in disbelief after receiving three parking tickets in two days because vehicles in her own driveway were protruding over the edge of the footpath.

Logan homeowner Vicki Buckley received two $81 fines on Monday for two infringements dated May 27, and on Tuesday another $81 notice was delivered, but for a different offence, dated June 3.

One of the vehicles parked in the driveway was a ute which belongs to her seriously ill son, who is not permitted to drive.

The ute was booked twice for different offences even though it was never moved.

Logan City Council handed out two fines for the May 27 incident for vehicles being stopped on a bicycle path, footpath, shared path, dividing strip or nature strip.

Then the council officer returned to write another ticket for Ms Buckley’s son’s ute for failing to park parallel on road-related area, facing in the direction of travel of vehicles.

The photo printed on the second fine also included a contractor who had parked completely across the driveway.

Ms Buckley said her driveway was shallow and that the wheels on one vehicle were partially on the footpath, but a simple warning would have been enough for them to move their vehicles.

“We have been parking like that for 19 years and a warning should have been given before a fine,” she said.

“I don’t understand why we didn’t receive a notice beforehand,” she said.

“My son’s car would be over the footpath by 10cm, but the other one, the tyres are not even touching the concrete, and we have received a fine for that as well.”

Ms Buckley said the family used to leave their utes on the road, but after several vehicles, including their own, were vandalised in recent months they started to park in the driveway.

“One of our car’s windows was smashed in April and there were another six cars which had their windows smashed in February,” she said.

“We did do our best not leave the cars outside because of the vandalism.”

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed there had been complaints about vehicles being vandalised in the street on February 22 and April 15.

Ms Buckley said some her neighbours also received parking infringement fines.

“I rang the council as soon as I got the fines, and they are sending me out a form to protest against it,” she said.

After receiving the fines she said can no longer park in her own driveway unless the fence was moved further back or they bought smaller cars.

“We are not in a financial position to buy cars so we will have to have the fence moved,” she said.

Logan City Council said it was looking into Ms Buckley’s predicament.

“Council was made aware of the incident by the new inquiry and is investigating,” a council spokeswoman said.
