The terrifying moment a family realised they’d accidentally locked their baby inside their car during the US heatwave has been captured on video.
The video, shot in Harlingen, Texas, a border town in the state’s southeast, shows several men trying to smash through the windscreen of an SUV using various tools.
It then shows a woman inside the vehicle handing the baby through the broken windscreen to one of the men outside as shocked onlookers watch on.

"This just baffles my brain"
The woman who shot the video told local media a woman climbed through the broken windscreen herself before rescuing the child.
It is not clear from the video how hot it was at the time, or how long the baby was inside the vehicle, but Texas is in the grips of a heatwave that has seen temperatures regularly reach 37C over the past few weeks.
Police said paramedics were called, who determined the baby was distressed but otherwise fine. No charges were laid.
Thousands of people who watched the now-viral clip on TikTok said they couldn’t imagine ever leaving a baby in a hot car.
“I swear, I don’t know how anyone could forget a child in a vehicle, this just baffles my brain,” one person wrote.

"How can someone leave that baby in there!"
“This is insane,” another person wrote. “Especially with the heat in Texas. The literal moment you turn the AC off it starts getting hot.”
“My heart,” another wrote. “How can someone leave that baby in there!”
However, 7News reports leaving a child in a hot car is a more common occurrence than you may think.
More than 5000 kids are rescued from locked cars in Australia each year, according to Kidsafe, who warn temperatures inside parked cars can reach 20C to 30C hotter than the outside temperature in just five minutes.
