Teens trash cinema with common item but cleaners are told 'It's literally your job'

These photos don't look like the average cinema after a session - even with kids. Are you a 'leave it there' or 'clean it up' kind of parent?

If you're a fan of eating popcorn at the cinema, you know it's one of the messiest snacks to eat in the dark.

It should be simple... a small morsel that goes straight into the mouth.

The reality is, though, the buttery kernels go down your top, on your seat, and all over the floor - especially if you don't care about who has to clean up after you.

In a civilised society, it's expected that you address some of that mess on your way out. But a group of teens recently left behind a sea of popcorn literally everywhere - prompting the cinema cleaners to post photos of the aftermath online.

"A group of teenagers came in just to trash the theater"

Posting photos of the state of the cinema, the Reddit user explained that the teens had hired the room for a private screening, repeatedly refilled their popcorn, and then left 20 minutes before the movie ended - with the implication they were there to cause havoc, not just enjoy the film.

The photos show every seat covered in layers of popcorn, including in front and under.

The post attracted thousands of comments - surprisingly, many with attitude and no respect.

"We're doing you a favour; you wouldn't have a job without anything to clean," read one.

Another added, "You literally get paid to clean up after us so why are you complaining?"

"You're making their job harder"

Other commenters were disgusted by the lack of respect in making "someone's job harder," just because they could.

One said it would be better to "show some basic courtesy for others", while another added, "what happened to common decency?"

Cinema cleaners also shared their experiences.

"Kids make such a mess in cinemas, you have no idea," one reader of the post exclusively told Kidspot. "Parents don't make them clean up. We used to only get 15 minutes between sessions, and it was so much work."

In the comments section, some cleaners said that popcorn was the least of the disgusting things that people left behind.

"You'd be very surprised to find out what people leave in a movie theater," said one.

"I used to work at one and some days I would contemplate quitting on the spot because someone changed their fucking child’s diarrhea filled diaper and then just left in on the floor, OPEN.

"Not to mention all the beer and alcohol that's been spilled all over the seats that we have to spray down and rub off so that the next viewers don't have to smell flat beer the whole movie."
