Perth mum pleads for driver to come forward after hitting 12yo on way to school

“It's hard to fathom that somebody would collide with a child and not stop,” Mum Tory says of the frightening incident.

Manhunt underway for driver involved in alleged hit-and-run of schoolgirl

Alexis was on her way to school in Perth when she was hit by a car

The 12-year-old was walking in front of a traffic warden when a small white hatchback ploughed through the pedestrian crossing and hit her.

The driver fled the scene.

Her mum, Tory, had dropped her off a few minutes before, and then she got a call from the school.

12yo hit while walking to school

Tory rushed back to her daughter, who was conscious but in total shock. Alexis repeatedly asked her “Mum, am I bleeding?”

According to 9News, Alexis was “quite shaken” by the incident.

“She was on the ground with a big crowd of people around her so pretty scary,” Tory said.

“Obviously I just wanted to cuddle her but I knew it was really important not to move her.”

Alexis broke her collarbone and leg as a result and has been in hospital for three days, requiring surgery on her broken bones.

For the next six weeks, Alexis will be wheelchair-bound as she recovers.

“She was so unlucky but she's so lucky at the same time,” her mum said. “Things could have been so, so much worse.”

Driver of hit-and-run urged to come forward

Tory is now urging the driver of the small white hatchback to come forward.

The incident occurred between 8 AM and 9 AM in the southern Perth suburb of Willetton.

“It's hard to fathom that somebody would collide with a child and not stop,” Tory said.

“I understand sometimes people might panic in the moment, but it’s a bit disheartening that it’s been three days and nobody has come forward.”

WA Police acting detective Sergeant William Beyfus explained that CCTV footage from the area shows the footage of the incident but failed to capture the driver’s license plate.

“The traffic warden came to the middle to stop traffic, a small white hatchback continued through the crossing and struck the 12-year-old child,” Beyfus said.

“We’re appealing to that driver if they were involved to come forward.”
