Whatever happened to plane etiquette? A disgruntled passenger has slammed a woman for using a blindingly bright charger in the middle of an overnight flight.

Sam Psihoyos, a California resident, was on a six-hour red-eye flight and trying his best to stay comfortable as he settled in for the overnight trip

The lights on the flight were out, and the plane’s curtains had been drawn; it was time to unwind and possibly sleep.

Then, just as Sam began to relax, he spotted an exceedingly bright light appear out of the corner of his eye.

Outrage as 'selfish' passenger uses bright and flashing device during flight

Woman’s blindingly bright charger disrupts red-eye flight

A woman sitting two seats over from him plugged her phone charger into the USB port and began using her device.

But it wasn’t any ordinary charger - it was a technicolour, flashing LED charger with lights bright enough to illuminate the entire row of the plane, which remained plunged into darkness.

“This woman’s charger in my row during a six-plus-hour red-eye flight,” the clip’s caption read. “Who does this?”

The flight was packed, with surrounding passengers trying to keep to themselves.

But the woman’s charger wasn’t taking any prisoners; the multi-coloured kaleidoscope charger flashed and bounced light off every surface it could reach, much to the irritation of everyone else.

It essentially turned the plane into a nightclub 30,000ft above ground, sans music and any possibility of a good time.

The outrageous act would be enough for anyone to feel irritated by the woman’s lack of plane etiquette, but Sam simply pulled his hood over his head and “endured” the rest of the flight.

“Maybe I should have offered up my white charger,” he joked.

“My blood is boiling on your behalf”

Racking up over 77,000 upvotes in less than a week, the Reddit community were truly dumbfounded as to how someone could be so disrespectful on a flight.

“Some people are literally the inverse to social anxiety, and it really shows,” a person commented. “I have never even considered the possibility of a cable doing that. Thanks, I hate it. And her,” said another.

“There's always someone on a plane with zero regard for the other person,” wrote a third.

“My blood is boiling on your behalf.”

Others were surprised the “flight attendants didn’t say anything” to the annoying passenger.

“They make you close the window shades on red-eye flights, also unsure how this allowed,” someone wondered.

It wasn’t even the disregard for plane etiquette that got people irritated, it was the blatant lack of empathy for others.

“My first thought was that this would trigger a migraine,” one said. “That would literally give me a seizure,” another agreed.

“Anyone with epilepsy around her is in legit danger,” read a comment. “Like, she's not just regular old rude, she's full-on ignorant.”
