Ashlee Good can't hold her baby, so mums are holding theirs tighter for her

Each person who lost their life in the Bondi Junction attack has a heartbreaking story.

But perhaps it's the story of Sydney mum Ashlee Good, who valiantly saved her baby as she was dying, that has spoken the most to the hearts of mothers everywhere.

This is evident in the thousands of reactions on social media, and an emotional trend on TikTok, where mums are holding their babies tighter because Ashlee isn't here to hold hers.

"The horror of handing your baby to strangers"

In incredibly moving clips, Aussie mums have encapsulated their distress about what happened to Ashlee and her nine-month-old baby as they innocently did what so many mums do: simply visit a shopping centre.

Mum Amy Reilly posted, with her baby on her lap, "Your partner saying please don't go to the shops without me for a few weeks is so surreal."

Her clip is captioned, "How is this even real?"

In just 24 hours, the post has 1200 comments, one of which read, "Westfield Bondi Junction is my go-to with my 3.5mo baby to pass the time in the afternoon. We recently moved house and was so happy that WBJ is just 15 mins walk. Now I’m so scared of going out."

Mum Lauren Geary shared footage of her kissing her little bub, with text over it reading: "The unimaginable horror of handing your baby to strangers praying they can save her from a random attack. Who does this to a BABY? Are we no longer safe at the shops? 

"I cannot stop thinking about this mama. RIP Ash Good. I'm holding my babies so tight tonight."

One mum responded: "Until you become a mum you cannot even comprehend how protective you become and like all mums would. Ash Good handed her baby to a complete stranger in order to save her whilst sacrificing herself 🕊️."

"It used to be a comfort"

Mum Annaliese Nagy shared, "Heading out to the shopping centre used to be a reassuring activity during times of feeling confined at home. Now it doesn't provide the same sense of safety as it once did."

She added under her clip, "My heart is breaking."

And mum Steph shared a similar sentiment, writing on her clip over footage of her darling girl, "This tragedy cuts extra deep as a mother myself to a baby of a similar age. A shopping centre is where mums feels safe and use to get out of the house every day.

"She should have been safe. They all should have been safe."

A comment under her video said something all of us are thinking: "Kept me up last night, it's so unfair that baby has to go on without her mum."

Update on Ashlee Good's baby

NSW Health Minister Ryan Park confirmed the good news on Monday morning as he provided an update on the condition of the eight victims who remain in hospital.

"I speak on behalf of the entire nation, who’s held its breath over the weekend, that (the) young nine-month-old girl, who went to Sydney Children’s Hospital, is now in a serious, stable condition,” he told 2GB.

"So she’s come down from critical."
