I don't want kids, so people question how I can love my job

"I just shouldn't have been asked this in an interview."

Why finding a babysitter feels impossible

A woman has exposed why she was overlooked for a job, despite being perfectly qualified.

With years of experience, Bridget was left stunned by a particular question during a recent job interview.

“I just had an interview for a nanny job, and one of the questions that the family asked me is if I want kids,” she revealed in a TikTok video.

When she responded honestly—that she doesn’t see herself becoming a mother—she was taken aback by their reaction.

"There might a misconception"

The family told her that not wanting children of her own must mean she wouldn’t make a good nanny for their family.

“They basically said, ‘If you don’t like kids, then how on earth do you like your job?’” she shared.

The encounter left her thinking.

“I believe there might be a misconception about the people that would like to be child-free,” she explained.

“I love my job. I’ve been a nanny for nine years. I adore kids. They are precious.”

However, her career has only reinforced why she doesn’t want children of her own.

“My job has shown me how difficult it is to be a parent and how time-consuming it is. It’s more so the lifestyle that I think my husband and I are a little turned off by, because we really like our freedom—we like a very chilled, relaxed type of life,” she said.

“I don’t think raising a kid really fits into the type of life that we want to live.”

But that doesn’t make her any less of a passionate, loving professional.

“That’s not to say that we don’t love children,” she insisted.

The couple’s reaction left her curious.

“I wonder how many people feel this way or think this way,” she said.

"Becoming a nanny solidified I DON'T want kids"

Bridget's TikTok comment section was flooded with shock over the family’s remarks. Some even questioned whether the interview question was legal.

“Hey, I don’t think they’re allowed to ask that?” one person pointed out.

Others reassured Bridget that her choice was completely valid—and far from uncommon.

“So many people in the childcare community are child -free by choice,” one person noted.

“Becoming a nanny solidified I DON'T want kids. loved my job and the kids, but I also loved going home at the end of the day and not having to take care of anyone,” another nanny shared.

One commenter praised Bridget: “This is SUCH a mature and valid take!! Being a nanny will show you the very real and raw reality of what having children would be like. And it’s NOT for everyone—and that’s okay!”

It's a powerful reminder that loving children and wanting them for yourself are two very different things.
