Grandad with Alzheimer's thinks he's meeting grandson for first time

"He’s met my son a few times already, but every time it’s like the first. It never gets easier," mum Olivia shares in the viral clip.

Anyone who's loved someone with Alzheimer's will most likely relate to this heartwarming and heartbreaking clip of a grandfather meeting his grandson as though it's the first time... even though it's not. 

 

He has simply forgotten previous meetings.

Mum Olivia Salza shared a clip of the moment in a TikTok which now has more than 2.1 million views.

"Every time is like the first"

In the video, Olivia's son is in his car seat, and his grandfather comes out to meet him. She tells the delighted man, "That's your grandson." 

He responds, "He's just like me."

Oliva says, "You're his papa."

The doting man tells her, "He's so cute. Oh my god, he's beautiful."

The caption of the clip reads:  "A lot of you ask for updates on my dad. He’s met my son a few times already, but every time it’s like the first. "It never gets easier, but these are precious memories to me."

Viewers laughed and cried at the clip.

"It must hurt to have to re-introduce, but grandpa gets to re-experience the joy of Ryan over and over," wrote one.

Another added, "He gets to fall in love with his grandson like it's the first time, every time."

And a third commented, "He's so precious, this brought me to tears."

Others were grateful for the awareness about the struggle of those living with Alzheimer's for both suffers and their families raised by the clip, with one writing, "This makes me feel a little better about this disease."

And many commented that they could see that Ryan was a little surprised by his grandfather's reaction.

"I'm sorry this is so cute but I'm dying at how the baby is looking like, 'Mum I just seen him last week'."
