‘Disgusting’: Wild brawl erupts at girls’ under-12 rugby finals in Sydney park

“We’re here for the kids, you know?” a witness of the scuffle said. 

Parents have been blasted after a brawl broke out during an under-12s rugby match in western Sydney.

On Saturday morning, parents and spectators stopped out to watch the under-12s girls’ rugby league final between Mt Druitt Vikings and Penrith Brothers in Sydney’s Erskine Park.

However, at roughly 9:45am, a fight broke out between the parents and onlookers, sparking a wild brawl that prematurely ended the entire game.

Girls’ under-12 rugby match disrupted by wild brawl

Witnesses watched as people began phishing and shoving each other, grabbing their clothes and wrestling each other to the ground. 

Footage obtained by 7News showed the spectators of the match throwing punches, climbing over the fences and hurling insults at each other, with witnesses trying to settle the situation.

According to spectators, an argument was sparked when the referee "made a bad call", which some parents on another team didn't like. 

The fight was so intense that one man was left with a ripped shirt, with referees calling off the entire match. 

No team was declared the winner, and no trophies were passed out.

Chad Nepia, a witness of the nasty fight, told reporters of the moment the brawl began. 

“We were on the other side of the field, and we saw cops turn up about half an hour later, “ he said. 

The entire scene was “disgusting” to the witnesses. “We’re here for the kids, you know?” Chad told reporters.

Police were called to the scene shortly after the fight broke out, but it had ended by the time they arrived. 

“On arrival, officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command were told two male spectators had become involved in an argument, with one of the males leaving the grounds,” a spokesperson for the NSW Police said. 

Shortly after leaving, the man reportedly returned to the park with a “number of associates and a brawl occurred”.

However, before the police arrived on the scene, the men were gone.
