Airline introduces child-free zone, offering passengers ‘extra peace’

“We believe this can positively affect parents travelling with small children …they can enjoy the flight without worrying if their children are making too much noise.”

Man on flight throws epic tantrum over crying baby

It’s time to say goodbye to hours of crying babies and toddler tantrums on flights - with one airline, at least.

Turkish-owned leisure airline, Corendon Airlines, announced it is coming to the rescue of passengers who dread the idea of flying with children with the launch of a child-free zone.

The “Only Adult” route will be available for any passenger over the age of 16, leaving them in peace while they reach their destination.

Airline offers a child-free zone for “passengers looking for extra peace”

According to Euro News, the quiet flight will be available on the routes between Amsterdam and the Caribbean island of Curaçao.

The child-free zone aims to “accommodate travellers looking for extra peace during their flight,” said the airline’s founder Atilay Uslu.

“Onboard our flights, we always strive to respond to the different needs of our customers,” he said.

He added the service won’t just be a relief for childless people alone. “We also believe this can have a positive effect on parents travelling with small children,” he said.

“They can enjoy the flight without worrying if their children make a little noise.”

The new “Only Adult” zone will roll out in November.

The adult zone will be located at the front of the plane, with 93 seats reserved for passengers who pay for the service.

But you can’t access this privilege for free - it will cost an extra €45 (AUD$75) one way. There are also nine spots with extra legroom, a service that will set you back €100 (AUD$168).

While this isn’t the first airline to offer an adult-only zone, it is the first European carrier to offer the service.

In 2013, AirAsia launched its Quiet Zone on its A330 long-haul flights, reserved for passengers older than 12.

Similarly, low-cost Singapore airline Scoot offers its own quiet service, ScootinSilence, on all of its flights and is only available for passengers 12 and older.

Who knows, maybe Australia will introduce an adult-only zone next?
