Worried you won’t have time to shop for that last minute gift this Christmas?
Genie, Brisbane’s newest on-demand delivery service, aims to solve the hassle of needing to stop into the shops at this chaotic time of year.
Launching on Christmas Eve, Genie works differently to other delivery services by organising deliveries from nearby sellers in one click.
Brisbane’s Rohan Bandil and Lucky Goyal, co-founders of Genie, have been friends for four years.
Mr Bandil said he met Mr Goyal through mutual friends.
“At the time Lucky was working as a chartered accountant and helped me out with my Australian tax returns,” he said.
“After knowing him for some time, we realised we are both striving to solve the same problems in the e-commerce industry – creating convenience in the marketplace.
“Coming from IT and logistics my skill set is complementary to Lucky’s financial know-how, making us a great team.”
A regular Uber Eats, Door Dash and Deliveroo customer, Mr Bandil found gaps in the market where Genie could offer an alternative.
Initially Genie will focus on food outlets, tobacco shops and convenience stores.
“We will be welcoming any category or any business owner who wants to sign up with us on our platform and we will be promoting them as well, especially those selling at places like farmers’ markets and Facebook marketplace,” he said.
“It’s all about empowering small, local businesses to help scale them.”
Genie launches on December 24 and will serve customers within an initial 30 to 40 km radius from Brisbane City, with delivery fees ranging from $2 to $10.
