Mum scores $250 Cricut Joy machine for $99 due to Big W blunder

"I love my Cricut, you're going to love it even more now you got it for so cheap!" one fan raved.

We all know that law...

If a product is advertised at the wrong price, the retailer must honour that price even if it's cheaper than the original. 

 

We've always had this knowledge tucked away in our back pockets, ready to whip it out smugly to any store employee who dares to tell us otherwise. 

 

Sadly, it usually only comes in handy with things like supermarket fruit and veg and only a few measly dollars are saved. 

 

But one lucky Aussie managed to put her Australia Consumer Law knowledge to good use recently and scored a major discount on a Cricut Joy machine.

"A great Mother's Day gift"

Posting to the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group, Mum Melissa posted about her recent shopping win.

"I was out shopping yesterday and walked past this in Big W. I’ve been wanting a Cricut Joy for a while, I knew they retailed for $259-$299," she said. 

Melissa then shared a photo of the Cricut machine with a $99 price tag. 

She said she decided to "try her luck" and challenge the wrong tag. 

"I spoke to a staff member who knew straight away and smiled and said 'I’ll get the manager, good luck.'"

When the manager came over, she agreed that it was labelled incorrectly and told the staff member to override the price and remove the tag.

"A great Mother’s Day gift for myself for $99!" Melissa concluded.

The post now has 2.2k likes and over 355 comments, with fellow markdown hunters praising her mum for pushing the retailer to honour the price. 

"Well done, and good on you for standing your ground," one user remarked.

A different woman wrote, "AMAZING deal for $99! Glad you stood your ground and they honoured it. What a bargain."

Then another contributed, "You did so well to get them to agree," while this user said, "I love stories like this!!"
