Mum creates epic Kmart snack station in her pantry for her hungry kids

The Aussie mum was tired of her ravenous kids raiding the pantry after school pick-up, so she decided to do something to combat the pre-dinner cravings.

Kmart’s mini cookware range is sending fans into a frenzy

As a parent, there’s probably no phrase we hear more than, “I’m hungry,” or rather, “I’m hunnnnnngryyyyyy.”

It’s a soundtrack to every afternoon as our kids drop their school bags and raid the pantry with fervent determination.

But one clever mum, tired of this daily scavenger hunt, decided it was time to do something about it.

So she set up a ‘snack station’ inside her pantry so her kids could whip up food whenever they wanted and fulfil their pre-dinner cravings.

Plus, it keeps the mess to a minimum… well, that’s the intention, anyway.

The mini cookware snack station

Using only appliances from Kmart’s new mini cookware range, like the mini waffle maker ($15), toastie maker ($9), noodle cooker ($15) and rice cooker ($15), the Sydney mum successfully turned her pantry into a snack haven. It also includes utensils, cutlery, salt and pepper shakers and sauces.

The station has been set up on top of a converted laundry hamper cupboard ($65), also from Kmart.

The mum shared her creation to the Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook group, saying, “After school, ‘Can I have a snack?’ is the standard greeting I hear from my children. I would prefer a simple hello, but we choose our battles.

“So, I set up a snack station in the pantry. The obsession with the Kmart mini appliances is real!”

She then explained how the mini appliances mean that her kids, 10 and 12, can operate them easily and won’t fill up before dinner due to large portion sizes.

“My daughter likes to make pizza pockets and scrambled eggs. My son makes fried eggs and toasted sandwiches. They are only new so still experimenting,” she said.

"Genius idea"

The snack station isn't just a hit with her kids, it’s become a sensation within the group too.

“This is the cutest idea ever,” one woman commented. “And lets kids be creative and cooking for themselves gives them encouragement. Love it.”

“This cracked me up. Genius idea,” wrote someone else.

“OMG, that’s IN your pantry?! I’m jealous. That’s next level,” a third praised.

“This is GOLD! My daughter has been asking for these minis for ages, now I’m rethinking it,” one commenter wrote.

Then one mum admitted she was seriously impressed because she’s more of a “grab a piece of fruit” sort of mum.

And someone else joked that it looks like, “an adult-sized play kitchen,” while another asked: “Can you be my mum? I mean I’m 39 but I need this sort of love.”
