Live music will make a grand return to one of Brisbane’s most popular precincts in a celebration of art and culture this weekend.
Funk, jazz, soul and Latin music will grace eight pop-up stages for the Howard Smith Wharves Music Trail today and tomorrow. Musician Danny Widdicombe said playing to a live audience brought a heightened sense of enjoyment after lockdown.
“It’s so satisfying for us to be able to do it again, but what’s interesting is that I think since the lockdown people have realised that they really don’t want to take music for granted anymore,” he said. “I think artists and patrons are saying this is really special and support it.”
The free event will feature several pop-up food stalls along the trail. Patrons wanting to see each artist will get a Music Trail passport to be stamped at each location, with anyone stamping every location receiving a prize.
Howard Smith Wharves director Adam Flaskas said the weekend would shine a light on the arts industry that has been desperately missed throughout the pandemic.
“We can’t think of a better way to support both up-and-coming artists and the arts industry than a weekend-long music trail,” he said.
A range of artists will be playing from 2pm to 10pm each day.
