Take the pressure and stress out of your New Year’s health resolutions with this handy new tool designed to help you hit your personalised weight loss targets.

Everyone prioritises different aspects of their health, influenced by our individual capabilities, concerns, and preferences. So, for each of us to approach something as challenging as weight loss with the same set of tools and expected timeframe is nonsensical.

According to the latest research from CSIRO, personalisation is the most powerful tool when it comes to Aussies achieving their health and weight loss targets.

With the New Year officially in full swing, here’s why it might be beneficial to take a more personalised approach to your sustainable health goals.

How to feel normal around food

According to the latest analysis of the progress of over 22,000 members of the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet, people’s current tactics and approach to improving their health are falling short of delivering long-term results.

Despite most participants setting an ambitious weight loss goal of roughly 20kg, only 3 per cent of participants were able to achieve this target within 12 weeks. The members who incorporated personalised AI assistance with their health transformations reaped the most benefits.

According to the data, members who focused on customised goals and personalised routines succeeded in achieving long-term success, with 47 per cent of members losing between 7 and 11kg in 12 weeks.

The importance of stretch goals

While it may seem counterintuitive to set a deliberately challenging target at the beginning of a weight loss journey, experts say it is the most effective way to build long-term momentum and healthy habits.

“Stretch goals give people that little extra push to see what’s possible. These goals are not just about losing weight fast - they’re about creating a rhythm of achievement,” CSIRO Research Scientist, Dr Gilly Hendrie, says.

“With the right guidance, members can achieve their weight loss goals and build lasting habits, setting them up for successful longer-term weight management.”

“We know that early wins create momentum for weight loss, and by setting goals that are personalised and realistic, members gain the motivation to stay the course and reach bigger milestones,” Dr Hendrie adds.
