Juvenile crime Qld: Father cops backlash after apologising for son

A Queensland Facebook community group has turned on a father who apologised for his teenage son’s alleged actions.

A Gold Coast father who apologised on a Facebook community group on behalf of his son has been hit with backlash from members of the community, with one calling the boy a “little sh**”.

After hearing reports of his son throwing rocks at cars, the man took to social media to issue the apology on behalf of the 15-year-old.

He posted on the Coomera Community Page on Facebook, saying he was yet to speak to his son about the allegations, but if they were proved to be true, there would be consequences for his actions.

“Please, in future, maybe try reaching out to the parents like a grown up would before posting pictures and names to the public,” his post said.

“Also it is very disappointing to see the community be so quick to judge without knowing any of the circumstances or facts.”

The post was slammed by other community members, with one saying there was “no excuse” for the boy’s actions, while another called him a “little sh**”.

“Well you should discipline that little sh** then,” one comment said.

“Circumstances or facts? What excuse could he possibly have for throwing rocks at cars?” another comment said.

“No excuse for it; could have really hurt someone,” another said.

People also called for the teen to be named and shamed.

The father said the situation was taking its toll on his family, and he believed he and his wife were doing the best they could for their son.

“He has some disabilities and we are getting help with that, but people with perfect kids don’t see what other parents are dealing with on a day-to-day basis,” he said.

“I’m not excusing his actions because what he did was wrong.

“I really think people aren’t thinking of what they are actually saying and just looking for likes.

“On the positive side I have had some people PM (private message) with nice comments and offers of help.

“So there are actually nice people out there.”
