'Is this normal?' Mum witnesses 'gross' supermarket act in fruit aisles

The clip sparked a broader conversation about supermarket etiquette. Where do you draw the line?

An Aussie mum has been left stunned after witnessing a bizarre act in the fruit aisle of her local Woolworths. 

She’s now wondering, “Is this an ick, or is it just me?”

Taking to TikTok, @taylerstanleyy explains: “Okay, so I just went and grabbed some groceries and please tell me this is normal.

“A lady walked over and she was standing in front of me at the blueberries and strawberries in Woolworths, and she opened up the blueberries and started touching them.

“After she squeezed the blueberries, she put them back and did it to another two punnets until she grabbed the one she wanted and walked away.”

“Is that normal? Yuck,” the mum concluded.

"Makes me mad!"

Cue the widespread outrage…

“Oh p*** off. I don’t want to buy blueberries again now,” said one commenter.

Another replied, “Yuuuuckkkk!! I wash ours and this still makes me mad!”

However, the clip also sparked a broader conversation about supermarket etiquette. Which fruits are okay to feel and which aren’t?

“I always feel my fruit and veg. Some things are soft and starting to go off and others can be hard and able to eat for days so always check for fruit I can eat on the day. That means I need to touch,” argued one woman.

But Tayler replied, “Yes me too, did it to my avocados yesterday. I don’t eat the skin off my avocado though. I get it but do you touch/squeeze blueberries before you buy?”

"I understand why she did it"

Another stood up for the anonymous blueberry squeezer, saying, “I no longer buy the strawberries or blueberries because the last two lots we got were mouldy so I understand why she did it.”

And a different person made the point, “You wash your produce anyway. Just think about how many hands have already touched it before this woman… picking, packing etc.”

Others said that Tayler should have called the woman out in person, instead of taking to social media to complain.

But she responded: “I definitely thought about it, but someone else beat me to it.”
