Influencer, 27, dies after common cosmetic surgery

The star went into cardiac arrest after allegedly getting botched surgery at a clinic in Mexico, with her family vowing to fight for justice.

An influencer tragically died just three days after reportedly undergoing liposuction at an unauthorised clinic in southern Mexico.

Denisse Reyes had the procedure performed last Sunday at the San Pablo Medical Clinic in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, a city in the southern state of Chiapas.

The 27-year-old single mum and content creator told her social media fans that she was in the recovery stage after the surgery.

According to the Daily Mail, her uncle, Ammao Rodríguez, claimed she was given an intravenous medication by her surgeon, Dr Orlando Gamboa, on the following Monday.

However, Mr Rodríguez alleged that Reyes’ body did not react well to the medication, resulting in her heart stopping unexpectedly.

“She starts to feel sick and went into cardiac arrest and that moment, they take her out of the room where she was in the clinic,” Mr Rodríguez recounted.

A friend who accompanied Reyes was allegedly told by the medical staff to stay outside the recovery room, saying they would inform a family member of her “delicate” condition.

Reyes was subsequently transferred to Manzur Hospital, as the San Pablo Medical Clinic didn’t have an intensive care unit, according to The Sun.

Unfortunately, her condition didn’t improve there and she passed away on Wednesday.

Mr Rodríguez emphasised that Reyes was healthy and had no pre-existing illnesses.

He has since been in contact with authorities in Chiapas to file a lawsuit against Dr Gamboa, who he claimed is not authorised to perform the procedure.

“May the authorities do justice to Denisse and may the doctor pay in some way for what he did,” Mr Rodríguez said.

“It’s not fair that she was already fine after her surgery and suddenly her health worsened to the point of death.”

The family’s lawyer has also vowed to take legal action, with their attorney stating: “After this happens, we will proceed against the doctor and whoever is responsible … but right now the main one will be Dr Gamboa.”

Dr Gamboa has not publicly commented on this incident and no official statement has been issued by any medical authority regarding the accusations.

Mr Gamboa previously made headlines in December 2024 when he faced accusations related to the death of a woman following liposuction.

He quickly took to social media to claim that he was not involved in that operation and that the medical team responsible for the procedure was not affiliated with his clinic.

Reyes, who leaves behind an eight-year-old son, rose to fame in 2022 as a “nenis,” which is word meaning a woman who sells products online in Mecixo.

She later opened her own store and used her Instagram and TikTok accounts to promote her business in her hometown of Tampico, a city in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Reyes’s sister, Massiel Reyes, shared her grief.

“You were a woman who always did what she wanted and went 1000 per cent in her life, too free, spontaneous, extroverted, that was you,” she said.

“Sister, I love you with all my heart, what is happening hurts my soul, I would like to turn back time but it no longer exists.”

Reyes’ family and friends are working to raise awareness about the dangers of undergoing cosmetic procedures at unregulated clinics.
