Diving into new love
AFTER two very public relationships, swimming icon Emily Seebohm says she’s “really happy” and “definitely enjoying” a bit of privacy with her new mystery partner.
The I’m A Celebrity contestant opened up this week on the show about her very public break up with fellow swimmer Mitch Larkin amid rumours of him cheating.
Seebohm told The Courier Mail that speaking about the relationship, which ended in 2018, was easier now that she was able to heal.
“It’s probably better talking about it now than it was then because there’s no other emotions that are tied to it. It’s honestly just my own experience and that’s all that I can talk on,” she said.
Following two very public relationships, one with Larkin and another with radio host David “Luttsey” Lutteral, Seebohm said she’s excited to have her “own thing” with her new partner.
“I’m in a new relationship now, very happy. I think there are those moments that I’m happy to share, and there’s obviously a level of privacy that I’m trying to uphold as well.”
During her first week in the jungle, the Olympian also spoke on her struggle with eating disorders and the impact the swimming industry had on her after starting her career at just 14.
With a number of allegations arising in the swimming industry last year, Seebohm said she believed all sporting industries were “willing to change”.
“We’re just growing and trying to grow with the sport, and make it the best sport it can be.”
Following her new-found reality TV stardom, not even Seebohm can know whether or not it will overtake her swimming career in the long run.
“I’ve kind of left myself open,” she said.
“If it draws me to swimming that’s what it draws me to, and if it draws me on a different path than I’m happy with both those things.”
I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! airs 7.30pm Sunday to Thursday on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
Brooke blindsided
THE BACHELORETTE curse continues as the franchise’s latest couple Brooke Blurton and Darvid Garayeli have called it quits in a “surprising” turn of events.
Just five weeks after the show’s finale aired, the couple posted separate social media statements, with Garayeli, 27, revealing the split last Sunday morning.
“Starting the new year off with an end to a chapter and hopefully the beginning of another,” he wrote on his Instagram story.
“Unfortunately Brooke and I have parted ways.
“Whilst we both genuinely thought we were each other’s person, things change and that’s okay.”
But Bachelorette Blurton, 27, seemed to be blindsided by her ex-partner’s post saying she found it “surprising”.
“I just want to say right now I’m finding this really quite overwhelming and just as surprising to me as you guys,” she wrote.
“I just woke up to the news. It was definitely agreed to part ways. I just wanted to do it privately, amicably and respectfully.”
Days later, the split seemed to turn more sour as the pair unfollowed each other on Instagram, and Garayeli moved out of the Melbourne apartment they shared together.
They’re now the latest Bachelorette couple to split, with only one out of the whole franchise, Georgia Love and Lee Elliot, making it the distance.
Blurton was the world’s first bisexual and Indigenous Bachelorette, however the season was plagued by low ratings and a feud between Blurton and friend Abby Chatfield, who is now dating former-contestant on Blurton’s season, Konrad Bień-Stephen.
Alli’s grim warning
GOLD Coast TV personality, Alli Simpson, has said she’s “extremely lucky” to be alive following a traumatic incident on New Year’s Eve where she broke her neck.
Simpson, 23, said the year was “not off to a great start” after she broke her neck and tested positive for Covid all in the first few days.
“...long story short — I dove (sic) into a shallow pool head first & hit my head on the bottom,” she wrote in the caption.
Photos of her lying in the back of an ambulance with a neck brace on were shared to her Instagram account where she issued a due warning to her followers.
“DON’T DIVE INTO ANYTHING WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW IT’S DEPTH!!!” she wrote.
The former I’m A Celebrity star suffered two severe fractures in her neck and will spend the next four months in a hard neck brace.
“I am extremely lucky to be alive and/or not quadriplegic as it JUST missed my spinal chord (sic).”
On Wednesday night, Simpson said she was “overwhelmed” with the support she was seeing not only from family and friends but also from the general public.
“Feeling very loved & lucky. I cannot thank every single one of you enough for your kind and thoughtful words,” she posted on her Instagram story.
Covid bungle at Studio 10
STUDIO 10 has had a Covid spanner thrown into the works with a positive test result isolating their two hosts, including Brisbane local Sarah Harris.
Harris posted a photo of herself on her Instagram, set up in her art-deco inspired living room with a ring light facing her, ready to cross live to the studio.
“My @studio10au WFH sitch. No symptoms (yet!) and just the faintest, FAINTEST line on rapid test,” she wrote in the caption.
While speaking to fill-in hosts Matthew Johnson and Lachlan Kennedy, she said her test results were “up in the air” as the slight positive line only appeared on her third test with the first two coming back negative.
The 40-year-old host was sent into isolation when her co-host Tristan McManus revealed he tested positive on a rapid antigen test on Wednesday afternoon.
McManus said he was also asymptomatic.
