How to remove the five most common stains

Zachary begins his now-viral video explaining that to remove blood stains you want to start by blotting the area with a damp cloth. Then, "rinse with cold water and treat with hydrogen peroxide and wash on cold so you don't 'cook' the stain."

You can buy a 200ml bottle of hydrogen peroxide from Coles or Woolies for just $4.30!

"Blood will ALWAYS 'foam' when treated with hydrogen peroxide," he explains.

If that doesn't work, treat it with a stain remover that has Protease in it, which is an enzyme that breaks down protein stains.

Next up, ink stains. He says that these can be treated with rubbing alcohol, except if they're a Sharpie or permanent marker (as it only works on pen stains.)

As for wine stains and coffee stains - while they might seem totally different, Zachary says they're removed in the same way.

"They're both tannin or oxidizable stains that only require a mild acid," he says. "Treat it with a little vinegar and let it sit for 15 minutes and wash," he continues.

"They're actually pretty easy stains if you get to them sooner rather than later."

Finally, the dreaded grease stain. He says these require a "surfactant" like dish soap or laundry detergent.

"Surfactants allow oil to become soluble in water, so just rub a little bit in and then wash," he explains.

How to remove red wine stains from carpet

In another video, Zachary shows his followers how to remove red wine stains from carpet - another really common accident.

He says you should try to get to it sooner than later, as a fresh stain is much easier to remove than an old stain.

Then, mix three parts water to one part white vinegar and pour it over the stain.

Next, put a clean towel over the stain and iron with steam "until you see the wine colour transferring to the towels," he says.

Repeat that step with different towels until you are happy. For Zachary, it usually takes him about six towels for the stain to fully lift.

If there's still any remaining colour, treat the stain with hydrogen peroxide and let it air dry.
