I shopped Target's winter collection and here are my top picks

Struggling to find affordable pieces that are as warm and comfortable as they promise? Here's your solution.

It’s official, winter is here, and Aussies are not coping anymore.

We’re just not built for the cold, and neither are our houses!

Finding affordable winter attire (that’s ACTUALLY warm and fuzzy, and not thin and scratchy) can be a task, to say the least. Thankfully, Target has come through with the ultimate solutions.

The new collection

Target’s newest winter collection has officially landed in stores across the country, and if I can be honest, it is full of hits.

As usual, the range includes pieces from Target’s base collection as well as its popular Preview and Lily Loves lines, meaning whether you’re heading to work, a night out, or just chilling (literally) at home, they’ve got all the bases covered.

I’ve been testing out a few of the pieces - and here are my favourites.

My thoughts on the range

Target’s new winter range has something for every type of person, with tops, bottoms, and plenty of pieces for layering.

I tried to mix and match as many as I could - and these are some of my top picks.

Australian Lambswool Jumper ($40) and Tulle Lace Midi Skirt ($50)

Starting off strong with two of what I think are some of the highlights of the collection - the Australian Lambswool Jumper and Tulle Lace Midi Skirt.

The Australian Lambswool Jumper in particular is a stand out. Made from high-quality Australian lambswool, it is genuinely one of the softest knits I own. It’s a boxier shape, so as someone on the taller side I sized up one to lean into that relaxed fit and style. I chose the beige colour (Fudge), but it also comes in blue, a charcoal and a light pink. I love Target knits, so I wasn’t surprised this one was a favourite!

The Tulle Lace Midi Skirt, though, was a surprise! I threw this one in to try something a bit different, and ended up getting so many compliments on it.

The skirt is thick and has a few layers of mesh, so you don’t have to worry about it being see-through despite the lighter colour. I styled it with the knit and knee-high boots underneath to stay warm, but you could absolutely layer it up even more with stockings or fleece leggings for even cooler temperatures. An office-appropriate twist on the lace skirt trend!

Long Sleeve Knit Polo Top ($40) and Knit Mini Skirt ($45)

The Long Sleeve Knit Polo and the Knit Mini Skirt are both from Target’s Preview range and, like most of the pieces in the collection, are under $50.

The Long Sleeve Knit Polo was one I immediately had my eye on because of the chocolate colour, which is really pretty. It’s a fitted, yet still comfortable and stretchy, piece that is perfect for the office with the buttons and collar, but could still be dressed down with jeans for a more casual look. This is something that I’ll be able to get heaps of wear out of over the course of the year.

And, the skirt is just as versatile. It’s made of a thick blend of viscose, polyester, and nylon, and has an a-line cut. It’s the kind of piece you could easily dress up or down, and style for any weather - I wore it with stockings for the office. It hits the perfect mini length on me - not too long that it feels awkward, but also not too short that I didn’t feel like I was flashing anyone.

Wide Leg Stretch Twill Pants ($45) and Off The Shoulder Knit Top ($30)

The Off The Shoulder Knit Top is the one piece I picked up from the new Lily Loves range. This style of top is super trendy right now, and is a great way to stay warm while adding a little bit of interest to your outfit with the off the shoulder style.

This particular piece is really good quality and an absolute bargain for $30. It comes six colours - black, charcoal, white, brown, light blue and green.

The Wide Leg Stretch Twill Pants are just as versatile with eight colours to choose from - pictured here in ‘Latte’.

These pants are the perfect in-between for those of us who don’t feel like wearing jeans all the time. They’re super comfortable and stretchy, making them a great pick for every day.

I will say, they are a little on the short side for me personally, so tall girls beware!

Wrap Coat with Scarf ($70)

Target came out with a fairly wide range of outerwear for winter as part of this launch, however the Wrap Coat with Scarf is by far the most unique.

The coat itself has a round neckline and button-down front, with huge pockets. But, the best part is the scarf! It’s detachable, meaning you can wear it with or without. But, the button at the back is a true game changer for anyone sick of their scarf pulling to one side.

It’s warm, and practical!
