An adorable labrador puppy is safe after being dramatically rescued from a mine shaft.

Marah, a 12-month-old labrador, fell down the shaft during a Father’s Day walk on Sunday afternoon.

After a two-hour rescue mission, fire and rescue crews in Maldon, in Victoria’s Goldfields region, managed to remove Marah from the mine before reuniting the excited pup with her family.

“The puppy is safe and well considering,” the Maldon Fire Brigade said.

Maldon locals warned that abandoned mines were a continuing danger to people and pooches alike.

“A very lucky pup indeed. Thankyou to our local heroes! When will we see all of these dangerous shafts safely covered?” Yvonne, a Maldon resident, commented on Facebook.

Two dogs were rescued from mine shafts in the region within the same week in December 2021.

Others praised the rescue effort and the hard work of those involved.

The mission was shared between crews from three different agencies; Country Fire Authority, Fire Rescue Victoria and the State Emergency Service.

“Excellent team work and co-operation between agencies. Thanks a million,” a relieved commenter wrote.
