‘Evil’: Warning over mysterious dog deaths on Sunshine Coast beaches
Dog owners have been urged to take caution when walking their pets on a particular beach due to a string of mysterious deaths.

Dog owners in the Sunshine Coast have been warned about taking their pets to local beaches after a string of mysterious canine deaths in the area.
A local vet has notified the Sunshine Coast Council of five dogs that had been admitted to their care showing symptoms of poisoning after spending time in the Buddina Beach area.
A Facebook post from the North Coast Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care centre also warned pet lovers in the area to walk their loved ones with caution, especially in the Buddina, Minyama, Point Cartwright and La Balsa areas.
“We unfortunately have had a series of patients presenting with alike symptoms that may suggest a toxicity by ingestion,” they said.
“Although we are unable to confirm the cause of these presentations, the link to these patients is the area that they have walked within the 12 hours prior.”
They said symptoms common with poisoning in dogs that owners should look out for were lethargy, gastrointestinal upsets or any changes to a pet’s behaviour.
“My dog was poisoned 2 weeks ago in Peregian Springs,” one woman shared on Facebook.
“She ended up losing use of one front and one back leg.”
Doggie Adventure Playhouse in Maroochydore also shared the devastating news that they had also lost a pup client to the “cold and evil” poisonings.
“Dogs are out hearts, our love, our companions and faithful cuddle buddies,” they posted in the tribute.
“Spread the word and if anyone lives in those areas who has CCTV footage can you please look and share it to the police and RSPCA.”
Other dog owners in the area have speculated that contaminated pup drinking bowls have caused the poisonings, but nothing has yet been confirmed.
Queensland Police is investigating and has urged anyone with information to come forward.
