A house built to float above water has been hailed as UK Grand Designs’ most breathtaking property of all time.

During an episode that featured last year, architectural designer Dan and his wife, interior designer Nina, realised their vision for a tranquil home surrounded by nature.

They bought a property in Sussex for $1.5 million, with plans to knock down the 1930s house that was there and to turn the swampy pool on the property into a natural pond, in a bid to create a peaceful landscape for themselves and their two daughters.

And the end result blew viewers away.

Grand Designs fans were left in awe by the property, with dozens dubbing the house “one of the best” to ever feature on the UK Channel 4 series.

Alongside an array of red love heart emojis, one person commented: “I’ve been watching this show for years and the aquatic home is, by a country mile, the best property I have come across.”

Echoing their comments, someone else said: “What a fantastic house, what a fantastic family, supporting each other all the way through in the toughest of times – truly inspirational.”

A third wrote: “It is beautiful – a home I can only dream of designing and building.”

While at times they faced obstacles on their mission, including working to a “tight” budget of $1.1 million, when host Kevin McCloud saw the final result, he dubbed it “aquatic Eden”.

McCloud marvelled at the “gorgeousness” of the Sussex home.

The natural pond was “thriving”, he said in a voiceover, boasting aquatic plants and “humming with wildlife”, including sparrows, dragonflies and a family of newts.

Speaking to Dan and Nina, he said: “I’m in some sort of aquatic Eden. It’s joyful. This is completely magical, it’s transformed.”
