A $29 Kmart item has sparked a frenzy, after shoppers pointed out it was the “absolutely perfect” stand-in for a more expensive product.
Taking to the Crazy Indoor Plant People Australia Facebook page, one social media user shared the discount retailer’s Telescopic Shower Caddy could double as a plant stand.
“I just saw this $29 tension pole from Kmart and wondered if anyone uses it for their plants?” the person wrote.
Other members of the group were swift to point out the caddy’s similarity to an actual plant stand from Urban Jungle that retails for $145 – noting they’d been using the item for exactly that.
“I’ve been using mine for over 12 months now, we love it,” one person wrote of the caddy.
“Good for hanging plants, pot plants and plants that love to climb!”
“We have it in our lounge!” someone else said.
“The shelves are not very big though so only small pots work.”
A third said they had two of the item, but advised against putting any extreme weight on the shelves.
“They’re still in my bathroom, so absolutely counts. I wouldn’t put super heavy plants on them, but for my little ones, they’re perfect,” the person commented.
Others, however, said they still preferred the real thing.
“I prefer the one from Urban Jungle,” one user wrote.
“Much better quality. It’s a false economy paying less for the Kmart product when it breaks so easily.”
Another said they’d found a use for one of each.
“I’ve got both: the Kmart one in the shower for shower things … and the Urban Jungle one in the kitchen,” they shared.
