Aldi selling ‘brilliant’ new air fryer in Special Buys sale

The German supermarket is famous for its cheap air fryers – with its latest Special Buys offering including a new function.

Aldi expands self-serve checkout trial

If you were still waiting for a reason to join the air fryer club, then Aldi’s latest offering might be just what finally tempts you.

The German supermarket is launching a new air fryer in next Wednesday’s Special Buys that will not only cook your food to crispy perfection, but will also steam it.

At $149, the air fryer is seven litres in size and has three cooking modes: air fry, steam or a combination of both.

Aldi’s version is half the price of other brand name air fryers which come with extra cooking functions.

The budget supermarket version got the tick of approval from shoppers in Aldi Fans Australia Facebook group.

“This version is new and also has new feature of steaming veggies,” one wrote.

I bought the oven on special a few weeks back. Love it,” another said of a similar Aldi air fryer.

One person who had a $299 four-in-one air fryer from Sunbeam said the multifunction cooking option was “brilliant”.

Unfortunately for some Aldi shoppers shipping delays mean the new air fryer will not be available in South Australia and Western Australia next week, with customers advised to check the supermarket’s website before heading into store.

How does an air fryer work?

Air fryers cook meals by circulating hot air around food, creating a crispy outside similar to deep-fried food.

They’re popular for cooking some foods faster than a conventional oven as well as not heating up an entire room – a must when cooking during summer.

According to Healthline, you can use just one teaspoon of oil to make fries in an air fryer that taste almost identical to the much less healthy deep-fried version.

Because of this the cooking gadget has been labelled as a sneaky way to lose weight – however, one dietitian has warned that it won’t magically make unhealthy foods suddenly better.

“But if you’re using your air fryer to whip up treats all day long, I’ve got some bad news. You see, a brownie is still a brownie, regardless of how it’s cooked,” Melissa Meier wrote for Body + Soul.

“My suggestion is to simply exercise a little common sense with your air fryer if good health is on your radar – veg, wholegrains and lean proteins are good-for-you everyday foods that can form the basis of a healthy meal, while chocolate, pastry and butter are not.”
