HERE’S a story that’ll rat-tle your morning.

A gigantic rat measuring 100 cms from nose to tail has terrorised a family in Sweden after gnawing a tunnel into their house and setting up shop in their flat in Solna, northwest Stockholm.

The rat, who had been living behind the Bengtsson-Korsås family’s dishwasher, was discovered after the family cat began acting fishy.

Assuming they had a pest problem of smaller proportions, they attempted to coax what they thought was a small mouse out of hiding.

“I thought she was exaggerating about that when kids see a spider,” said husband Eric.

“But it had made a nest behind the dishwasher and dug the water pipes so we had a water leak”.

But it wasn’t until the rodent “rushed out of the garbage bag” and ran around the kitchen floor, that the family realised their uninvited house guest wasn’t your average house mouse.

The rat was eventually caught with industry-sized traps.

“I was terrified. It was so huge that I barely saw what it was and I jumped up on the kitchen table,’ mum Signe Bengtsson-Korsås told Swedish news site Home & Rent.

“It was a monster, the worst I’ve seen”.

Exterminators were called in to solve the hefty problem with giant, industrial sized traps.

Is this the future? Giant rats invading our homes?!

But according to Jonas Wahlstrom, who manages Swedish zoo Skansenakvariet, there are bigger, wild rats roaming the country.

“They can bite properly. There may also be some diseases. They live among garbage so it’s not surprising,” he told Aftonbladet.

His advice? Eat them.

“It’s a very good meat”, he said.

Hope you’ve got an empty stomach.
