EVERYONE loves a bit of DIY and the Easter long weekend is the perfect opportunity to complete some easy jobs around the home.

Here’s how to easily get your home in tip top condition:

1. Blast away stubborn dirt and grime

You’ll be surprised with how much grease, dirt and grime can build up on your driveway, house exterior and deck over the course of the year. Use the extended break to give your home a blast with a high pressure cleaner and get rid of stubborn dirt and mould. The driveway is a great place to start, then work your way around the home until it’s looking brand new!

2. Home painting preparation

Give your home a facelift with a fresh coat of paint. Make sure your home is paint-ready by removing any imperfections or flaking paint with a heat gun, wire brush or sander. Scrub clearn the surface, using sugar soap, to get rid of any remaining dirt and grime. Apply a primer to seal the surface and to help the new coat adhere better. Before applying the paint, mask up window frames or any other areas you want protected with masking tape, and then go for it!

3. Recoat the veranda

After a long summer of outdoor entertaining, your deck or veranda might be looking a little tired and worn. Sand it right back to remove any scratches and apply a few new coats of varnish to give it some life for winter and into spring.

4. Spruce up the garden

Remove any dead or unwanted branches, feed them into a chipper and then back into the garden. This material makes a brilliant form of mulch to add all the nutrients your garden needs to withstand the colder months. With the cooler change in temperature, it’s also an ideal time of year to build new garden beds or renovate your whole front or back yard.

Spring is not the only time to rid your home or garage of unwanted and unused gear. Hire a trailer and set aside a day over the long weekend to go through everything that’s taking up space around the home.
