A DRIVER who found a grey kitten frozen to the road and rescued it says she initially thought it was a chunk of ice and was shocked when it tried to move.

Dara Taylor of Elyria, Ohio tells The Chronicle-Telegramshe found the cat Monday covered in ice, as though it had been in water, and it couldn’t open its eyes.

“I thought it was a chunk of ice in the middle of the road,” said Ms Taylor.

“When I got closer, it moved. That freaked me out.

“As I got out of the car, I could hear him meowing so loudly and pitifully and his little heart was beating so fast.”

Ms Taylor freed the cat from the road and took it to the Friendship Animal Protective League.

The group’s chief financial officer, Shelley MacDonald, says the male cat has warmed up and is being treated for a respiratory infection.

Officials are hopeful the kitten, who they have named Frosty, will fully recover.

The organisation says it is already getting adoption requests for the kitten, who they estimate is four or five months old.

Animal rescue workers say Frosty’s friendliness and comfort with people suggests he isn’t feral, and that he may be a pet who slipped out into the freezing weather.
