PR maven and former fixture of Sydney Roxy Jacenko has revealed she’s dropped over 10kg after a disastrous weight loss attempt last year saw her accidentally overdose on Ozempic.
Jacenko, 43, took to Instagram to post a photo of herself looking gorgeous in a red bikini, revealing she’s reached her goal weight.
Fans were immediately thrilled, and the compliments came rolling in, with someone commenting she looked “amazing” and another sharing that she looked “incredible”, while someone else dubbed her a “babe”.
The local Aussie celebrity — who has recently relocated to Singapore but still likes to fly back to get her hair done — explained that she’s recently made some lifestyle changes.
Jacenko told news.com.au she was feeling “proud” of herself and that her weight loss resulted from discipline, something she decided to focus on after she overdosed on Ozempic in September 2023 in an attempt to lose weight.
Ozempic is a diabetes medication that is not authorised for weight loss in Australia but people have been ignoring medical guidelines.
Jacenko said she took such rash action because she had gained 15kg as a result of using Tamoxifen, which is a hormone therapy used for treating breast cancer, a drug she’s on because she battled breast cancer in 2016.
She’s now turned to healthy habits to shed the extra weight and said giving up the booze has been vital to getting back to feeling her best.
“Without question alcohol, I was a binge drinker; like everything I do, I go full throttle even with things you shouldn’t, so I would drink three to five drinks a night without an issue, wake up fine and do it all again the next day. It was like habit, really,” she explained.
The businesswoman added that she didn’t even really love the taste but was looking to unwind from her busy professional life.
Jacenko said she weighed 66kg and is now down to 54kg.
She explained she doesn’t think the number really matters, but she wasn’t comfortable in her body.
“I didn’t feel good, my clothes didn’t fit, I would put a pair of jeans on and feel the need to undo the top button so I didn’t cut off my circulation,” she said.
Jacenko admitted that she could have just gone out and bought bigger clothes but she was dedicated to fitting back into her old ones.
“Many would say, buy new jeans, but I wanted to get back to feeling and looking how I did pre cancer treatment. That was important to me,” she explained.
Jacenko said losing the weight has made her feel more confident again and she’s feeling really good in her body for 2024.
“I feel much better within myself, I am not squeezing into items that once fit me comfortably and I feel alert, fresh and healthy – it’s amazing what a change in lifestyle and healthy eating can actually do from an overhaul perspective. I think it just takes sticking to it – I had tried before but would last a week or two and then give up – opting to try the craze of Ozempic, which didn’t end well!”
